On 1993 the Sala famíly
celebrated the 150-years anniversary of the first fiscal license we were awarded
to make sausage. To commemorate such fact, the Sala family thought that it
was opportune to create a small museum
in Castellfollit
de la Roca, which would become a legacy of both our history and
the evolution of preserved meats. We wish also that it becomes another element
in our shire Garrotxa
to give hospitality and a warm welcome to visitors, as well as a sign of our
will to continue running our familiar enterprise. There are hitherto museums
about wine, labouring tools, cork, textile, fur tanning, etc. However we do
not think that there is any other museum about such a quotidian thing in food
as the meat and its preservation are.
In the museum, there are all kind of tools used during the last 150 years
to process meat, worn machines, and old photographs on the several generations
of workers in the firm, as well as some panels where the old process of elaboration
is presented. We think that anyone who wants to know the history of our country
should visit the museum.

The town of Castellfollit de la Roca is one of the smallest villages in Catalonia,
with its surface below 1 km2. It is bounded by the confluence of the rivers
Fluvià and Turonell, in the middle of which there is the impressive
cliff on which the village is sited.
The cliff is a wonderful natural belvedere. It is about 50 meters high and
1 Km long. It was created by the erosive action of the two rivers on two volcanic
defiles which is happening from many millenniums ago.
The village has a medieval origin. The streets and squares are narrow, and
most of the houses were built with volcanic stone, as well as the pavement
of some streets.
The most famous portrait of the village is that of the buildings of the old town which were built by the border of the cliff.
You can visit:
- The basaltic cliff.
- The basalt stone.
- The old town and the belvedere square.
- The museum of sausage.
- St. Roc church tower.
- The routes of the low shore of the river Fluvià.
